If there were a curly girl’s diary, twist-out hair styling would be on one of the first few pages. Not only are twist-outs a natural way to maintain and define your curls, but they help to lock in moisture that is often lost to the elements. Read our five-step Twist Out Guide to creating the perfect flat twist-outs.
What you’ll need:
- Curly By Nature Moisture Shampoo
- Curly By Nature Intensive Conditioning Mask
- Curly By Nature Hair Repair Oil
- Wide tooth comb
- Rattail comb
- Silk scarf
Step 1: Cleanse & condition
Use our natural Moisture Shampoo to thoroughly cleanse your locks. It’s important to remove all the build-up of product in your hair so your curls are fully absorbent. After washing, apply a generous amount of our Intensive Conditioning Mask and cover your head with a plastic cap for twenty minutes before rinsing.
Step 2: Moisturise
Use natural oils to moisturise your wet locks. Our favourites are coconut oil and argan oil, but you’ll need to try a few to find out which ones are going to work best with the density of your own hair. Our Hair Repair Oil is formulated with a range of natural oils, including kukui nut oil, macadamia oil, grapeseed oil and coconut oil, which is great for all curly hair types.
Step 3: Section your hair
Use the metal clips to separate your hair into small sections ready for flat twisting. Remember the smaller the sections you twist, the tighter your resulting curls will be. Keep this in mind when you’re separating your hair.
Step 4: Twist
Flat twist your hair from root to end, remembering to twist in the direction you would like your hair to fall. If you would like your hair to fall to the sides, install a middle parting. Or if you would like a sweeping fringe, create a side parting and flat twist across the front of your head. Once you’ve twisted all of your hair, cover your head with a silk scarf for bed.
Step 5: Unravel
In the morning gently unravel each of your twists and apply a small amount of our Hair Repair Oil to add sheen. Use the wide tooth comb to tease out the curls and style as desired.
